Gourds, Guinea Pigs & Gouda, Oh My!

I can't believe that September is almost over already!! Here are some pictures from the past month:

Brennan in school mode, Isla doing what she does best, and one of the last nights of Grandma and Grandpa's visit.

German school children receive special cones containing candy and toys on their first day of school. Not that Brennan would have known any better had we chosen to skip this tradition, but it seemed like fun and he really enjoyed his treats and new tractor. Brennan has transitioned well and really enjoys Kindergarten. He has a little girl friend named Saskia who he loves and they squeal with excitement every morning when they see each other. Brennan has been able to understand a lot of German for awhile now, but since starting school he's been speaking it much more.

Here are the first eggplant from our garden, which were so tasty grilled with a thyme sauce. Note: Isla is usually lying on an extra cloth because she is a bit of a spitter-upper. This is new to us and adds an extra element of danger when holding her. Sometimes I look like I've been in a yogurt fight.

My little Meerschweinchen. Isla has two dueling cowlicks which give her a bit of a mohawk. I love them and from the back she reminds me of a sweet little guinea pig.

Our neighbors across the street just got married and these are the tent and beer trailer that they set up in the field behind their house for the reception. We were invited and had been intending to go, but Patrick ended up being in Spain for two weeks and the rest of us were too worn down with colds and single parenting to make it. We've been told to come by soon for drinks and to see pictures of the party.

On Saturday a friend and I packed up all the kids and drove to Pumpkin Island for a little fall flavor. Her husband was in Spain too and it was a nice way to spend a sunny day. The theme this year was apparently the American West and there was some lovely gourd art. The boys were more interested in the tractors and pizza.

Isla has mastered the social smile! She saves the best ones for Brennan.

With Daddy home we took a morning trip to the Saturday market in Sittard, NL where we nabbed some tasty gouda and a snack of baked goods.

Life can be exhausting at 7 weeks old!
