We celebrated Halloween a little early this year with a "Trunk-or-Treat" event held on Friday at the Army garrison near us in the Netherlands. Buzz Lightyear was very excited to be there and took care of the trick-or-treating while our cute little tiger rode along in the stroller and drank milk. Brennan responded to each sugared addition to his pumpkin bucket with an earnest little "thank you" that made me proud.
On Saturday afternoon we celebrated German-style at a Kinder Disco in Heinsberg. We met up with some of our good friends, all of whom were dressed as witches, and took the kids to the dance party. On a side note, the Germans celebrate the spooky side of Halloween, ie witches, ghosts, goblins, and reserve the character costumes for Karneval. We skipped the haunted hallway but Brennan really enjoyed bowling with gourds.
Isla cut a rug out on the dance floor, even when she was the only one dancing. She also participated in some of the coordinated dances and limbo.
Brennan preferred to stay near our table and gobble down sweets with Hannah. I love this picture of Buzz with his witch friends running through town, powered by sugar.
On Sunday we met up with some friends to explore the Wildpark. I didn't take any pictures of the animals, but here are some fall colors and the kids at the playground.
Tuesday was a holiday and since Brennan was home from school we drove around looking for adventure. We stopped at Kasteel Aerwinkel, which may or may not have had a no trespassing sign, it was hard to say. We quickly and quietly traipsed around and took some pictures, including one of this very interesting circular woodpile.
Back in the car, we meandered around until we came across this windmill in the middle of a residential neighborhood in St. Odilienberg. It was closed, but still fun to look at and during our walk Brennan found a cafe he was interested in patronizing. Here he is pressing his nose against the glass. Clean windows are a BIG deal here so I thought this was funny.
We made one more brief stop before lunch to wander around the beautiful St. Odilienberg church. It was definitely a great way to get out and enjoy a beautiful fall day.
Some shots from around the house, including a reminder that fall won't last forever and winter is on it's way.
