Last weekend we took a short trip to the Netherlands to visit the Keukenhof tulip gardens and see our friends, the O'Briens, who are currently living in Arnhem. We drove up on Friday and then woke up bright and early to make the most of the gardens on Saturday. It was a bit chilly (I think I mention the cold weather in every post!) but still very pretty. The height of the blooming season will be a little later this year due to the cold, but there were still plenty of flowers out. We met up with Chris and Lilly for lunch at the gardens, parted ways for a bit more sightseeing, and then headed to their place in Arnhem for a fabulous home-cooked dinner. Sadly, our camera battery died early on Saturday so we don't have too many photos. We did get our annual "Hudocks in a Clog" photo, as did a group of tourists who apparently could not resist "Hudocks in a Clog" and even posed with us for their photos.
It was hard to get real smiles out of a tired, post-lunch Brennan, but we had to try given that Chris still had battery in his camera!
On Sunday we all headed to the Openluchtmuseum, which is a great collection of buildings from all over the Netherlands and from various time periods. We will have to go back for a more educational visit, as we didn't make it too far beyond the Poffertjes stand, which sells tiny sweet pancakes.
We got home just in time for our town parade. Here are the newest recruits to the town civic group and Brennan's friends Max and Nico.
