Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

On Friday we awoke to sunny skies and a beautiful day, finally! We packed up, and then headed out for one last stroll through downtown Prague. We then spent most of our beautiful day in the car traveling to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Patrick snagged one last souvenier from the Czech Republic right before we crossed back into Germany: a speeding ticket. At least they didn't fine us for not having the appropriate window sticker too! In Rothenburg we checked into our cute room at the Gasthof Greifen and then went downstairs for a fabulous German dinner, (way better than the food we get around here for some reason.) Rothenburg is a tourist town, but Rick Steves is correct when he says that nothing beats it for cuteness, and the hospitality is wonderful. After dinner we waited in the marketplace for the nightly Night Watchman Tour. We plied Brennan with milk and made it through the tour with no Hudock outbursts. The Night Watchman was great; very informative about the history of Rothenburg while at the same time pithy and enetertaining. After the tour we continued walking until Brennan passed out, then returned to our Gasthof to have beer and water on the back terrace. By some miracle we managed to get Brennan out of his stroller, carry him to our room, change him and put him to bed without him fully waking up. Must have been something in the spaetzel!

Here are sunny skies as we leave Prague, Hudocks at a rest stop overlooking sunny Czech countryside, and some pictures from the tour in Rothenburg.

Patrick was a good deal taller than our room door, and here is a picture of a typical German breakfast. It is SO great that breakfast is included in most room rentals around here, and it's hearty too!

Saturday saw us up bright and early to check out the town wall. We also ran across this group of traditionally dressed people, although I have no further explanation for them. Here is Brennan stopping to reference Rick Steves, and a shot of him in the car as we finally head toward home!
