Brennan and I took a quick trip back to the U.S. a couple of weeks ago in order to see Sarah while she was in town doing some wedding planning. We had an adventure taking military flights, space available. On the way out we rode in a C-17, which was great because Brennan could run around in the huge cargo bay. Earplugs were mandatory though, and it was too loud to communicate verbally (sort of challenging when you have a toddler!) On the way home we flew on a C-5, which is humongous. Rather than the jumpseats of the C-17, we were in airline style seats above the cargo bay; it was almost like a plane within a plane. The only hitch came in trying to catch a ride back to Germany. Because we were flying without Patrick we were very low priority and ended up waiting for five days before there was space for us on a flight. It was a learning experience and we did get some good tips from veterean space-a flyers on how to work the system. I was not allowed to take photos of the flight line, so here are some stock photos of a C-17 and C-5, as well as pictures of Brennan hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa.
